New Hobbies for Seniors

There’s no reason that seniors can’t learn new things as they continue to age. While many of our residents have had a multitude of different hobbies throughout their years, things tend to change as someone ages.

As someone ages, it’s common for an ailment or injury to make mobility harder for them. Suffering from a stroke, arthritis, or getting injured from a fall are all common reasons that we see seniors needing to start broadening their horizons in regards to the activities and hobbies that keep them busy and active.

But these types of changes should never mean the end of having fun and enjoying their days. There are many ways for them to have fun, boost mood, and stay engaged.

Here are some ideas:

  • Reading (whether regular books or through an iPad or Kindle or even audio book downloads can make reading/learning new things easy.)
  • Cooking
  • Baking
  • Knitting and Crochet
  • Gardening
  • Playing a musical instrument
  • Learning a new language
  • Drawing and painting
  • Scrapbooking
  • Games and puzzles
  • Taking short walks if able
  • Participate in charity work
